recent food adventures.

recent restaurants:
Greenhouse Cafe
freaking love this place. super cute, seems like a great place to study. i got the salad with blue cheese and candied walnuts, and a cup of the corn chowder. both were really good. this place is a little farther away (fullerton), but i will totally make a day trip out there soon.

Kaffa Coffeehouse
got french press coffee. was delish. i drank it black. also got the oatmeal which was REALLY REALLY good. fresh bananas and strawberries on it. i loved it. next time i got a salad which had WAAAAY too much dressing on it. so much that i couldn't eat the bottom half of the salad. but the salad was good, i'll just get it with the dressing on the side next time. latte was also good.

Sweet Elle Cafe
oh man, went all the way to hunnington for this one. good choice though. lunch (chicken and pesto panini) was def not the healthiest thing i could have ordered, but god damn, it was delish.

Coaches Medditeranian Grill
went here for dinner after studying in hunnington. very good, and very gorgeous server, which was a perk. probably the first time i'd had baklava (which was delivered comped after the meal) in about 5 years. for some reason, i was under the impression i was not fond of it (probably becasue my mom doesn't like it, and i'm totally too immeshed with her), but i LOVED it. so yummy. the rest of the food was good too, but a bit pricey. shared hummus, a greek salad and the chicken/lamb kabobs. also didn't really realize how much i like lamb. i must expand more often.

Starbucks
got the "meal deal" with the latte and oatmeal today. inquired about the calories in the oatmeal, figured out the oatmeal itself is 140 calories (not bad), but the additional sugar (50 calories), fruit (100 calories) and nuts (100 calories) is where the calories really add up. i used about half the sugar packet, and saved the rest, which came in really nice individually wrapped packages. they look like the perfect midday snack, so it's really quite economical.

thursdays dinner: salmon "bulgogi" with bok choy and mushrooms.
pretty good, too much sauce in the glaze. i didn't add any, so it must have been the soy sauce. next time i'll use reduced sodium. nice sweetness to the salmon though. learned that shiitake mushrooms are SUPER expensive. 4 oz of them would have cost me $24. ouch. bok choy reduces tons, will probably make it again in a stir fry, tasted yummy. i added snap peas because i was worried i didn't have enough veggies for the three of us. served with a chianti. nice flavors.

got prarie organic vodka. tasted pretty good on its own. for drinking straight and light mixing. none of that heavy cranberry crap, hahaha.

fridays dinner: mozzarella and prosciutto pizza with balsalmic oions and thyme.
modified from recipe above. delish. pizza came out well cooked for 12 minutes at 500 degrees. loved the balsalmic onions and will make more onions like this for pizzas, salads, etc. i only added balsalmic vigegar to the onions, not worchester sauce like epicurious called for. still tasted good. i dunno how much making my own garlic oil really made a difference for the flavor. i probably won't bother next time. tasted good brushed lightly with extra virgin olive oil. thyme gave it nice flavor and prosciutto was a yummy salty addition. will totally make again.

saturdays dinner:
had leftover pizza for lunch and for dinner. pretty delish still. good for the money, three meals! (one of those meals being heavier than it should have been.)

tomorrow's dinner: chicken, cashew, and red pepper stir fry with rice pilaf.
recipe from april 2009 cooking light. should be delish. got all the ingredients today. maybe i'll throw some bok choy in here too?? loving fresh and easy's "almost expired" food area. bought some tillapia and froze it. i'll make fish tacos later on this week. yum.

i'll try and be a better blogger. haha. lots going on. and i doubt it matters anyways. i've already accepted that this blog is more for my records than anyone elses enjoyment.
